Mom of 3rd Culture Kids

My daily experiences, joys and challenges in motherhood and being a mom of 3rd culture kids…

Trial Pre School

Five more days before my  li’l boy is going for his 2 weeks trial preschool. I really like the Thai school idea where they will let all the 3-4 pre schoolers have a 2 week trial school first before the start of the school year. During this trial period, parents are allowed to wait for them in the school so, they can be brought home anytime if they cry. This will go on for 2 weeks until the kids are already comfortable with the school, their teachers and classmates.

Their school time at the trial stage will only be for 3 hours ( or half a day) as opposed to the normal 7 hour classes ( or full day classes). Since they’re just pre preschoolers, their classes will be short and they will have more time for games, activities, meals and naps.

Anyways, I’m quiet excited but nervous at the same time how my li’l boy will do. I just hope and pray that he can adjust easily and be happy in going to Thai school.

The Jesus Film for Kids

image

Here is a link of a video on The Jesus Film for Children. This film is available in over 100 languages. I remember showing this to my daughter when she was still three years old and she was in tears after watching the film. That was the time I explained to her about God’s great love and led her to pray to receive Jesus in her heart. Until now,she still remembers the movie. That’s why I had to search the internet download the movie so, I can let her watch again. I think we gave away the VCD that we had.

Girls’ Day Out and Boys’ Day Out

Last weekend was our first time to have a simultaneous ‘boy’s day out’ and ‘girl’s day out’. The boys ( my Hubby and li’l boy) went swimming while the girls ( my li’l girl and I) went window shopping. It was so cute how my li’l boy was so excited to go swimming with his Appa. He was too excited that it was like he didn’t know what to do first. My girl on the other hand was so cool but was chatty as usual.
When we went to Lee Garden’s Plaza, we saw that the Fine Arts students of Thaksin University was having an Art Exhibit. Oh, that was a pleasant surprise for me as I just love looking at paintings and sculptures. I would have to say that I was amazed by the students’ talents and creativity. My li’l girl on the other hand has shown so much of interest with the paintings, asked a lot of questions and even ‘interpreted’ some of the abstract figures. I would have to say, she has an eye for art.
After the exhibit, we had some snacks and McCafe and spent some time there. My li’l girl was busy assembling her Mcdo toy while I spent time drinking my yummy blended mocha latte’ and reading a few chapters of my book. Then, the rest of the afternoon was spent strolling around Central and looking at their stuff ( pheng maak maak!!).

As for the boys, they also enjoyed their swimming and swam for 2 hours in the pool.

That was our Saturday afternoon. It was a refreshing one.. a break from my normal routine of being with my 2 energetic kids 24/7. Thank you Lord!
