My daily experiences, joys and challenges in motherhood and being a mom of 3rd culture kids…

Road Trips

We just came back from a 10 hr. road trip from Malaysia. It’s really not that long to travel from Malaysia but we had to stopover for 2 hours in my Hubby’s hometown at the middle of the trip.

Our kids are used to travel by land. But no matter how many times we travel by land in a year, road trips are not always a pleasant experience. There will be times when they will be too cranky or times when they will be too restless. Pleasant road trips of course when they behave nicely, play peacefully or be sleeping all throughout the journey ( I wish!). But as a family, road travels are our time to bond together. These will be the times when we sing songs loudly in the car, play ” I spy”, have some countdowns when reaching the tunnels or bridges, crack jokes and just be silly with the each other.

All these times are truly precious for I know that the kids will grow up fast and in a blink of an eye be leaving home and be away for their studies or marriage (?). LOL! I know that’s way to far ahead, but my point is, I’m trying to cherish all these times with my li’l ones.

Heaven Help the Home

I’m currently reading the book by Howard Hendricks, Heaven Help the Home. It’s quite an old book which we bought on sale    at a Christian bookstore last year. But as I read through the pages, I found some ‘treasures’ in it. Most of the things that has been discussed are very practical advices on family and parenting issues that’s surrounding us now. Sometimes, it’s so easy to get into the mold on how the world does ‘ parenting’ or model ideal families but then the Biblical standards are different and that’s what we aim our kids to follow. That at the end, they too will have that relationship with God and model that Christ likeness in the future.

I will have to post on some of my insights in my next few posts.

Girls’ Day Out and Boys’ Day Out

Last weekend was our first time to have a simultaneous ‘boy’s day out’ and ‘girl’s day out’. The boys ( my Hubby and li’l boy) went swimming while the girls ( my li’l girl and I) went window shopping. It was so cute how my li’l boy was so excited to go swimming with his Appa. He was too excited that it was like he didn’t know what to do first. My girl on the other hand was so cool but was chatty as usual.
When we went to Lee Garden’s Plaza, we saw that the Fine Arts students of Thaksin University was having an Art Exhibit. Oh, that was a pleasant surprise for me as I just love looking at paintings and sculptures. I would have to say that I was amazed by the students’ talents and creativity. My li’l girl on the other hand has shown so much of interest with the paintings, asked a lot of questions and even ‘interpreted’ some of the abstract figures. I would have to say, she has an eye for art.
After the exhibit, we had some snacks and McCafe and spent some time there. My li’l girl was busy assembling her Mcdo toy while I spent time drinking my yummy blended mocha latte’ and reading a few chapters of my book. Then, the rest of the afternoon was spent strolling around Central and looking at their stuff ( pheng maak maak!!).

As for the boys, they also enjoyed their swimming and swam for 2 hours in the pool.

That was our Saturday afternoon. It was a refreshing one.. a break from my normal routine of being with my 2 energetic kids 24/7. Thank you Lord!
