As defined by Wikipedia, Third Culture Kids or Trans-Culture Kids, (abbreviated TCKs or 3CKs,) who are sometimes also called Global Nomads, “refers to someone who, as a child, has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture.
My kids would surely pass as Third culture kids or maybe even 4th culture kids (if there’s such term) given the fact that their parents are already cross-cultural. Well, to avoid much confusion let me introduce ourselves.
I’m a Filipina and married to J, who’s a Malaysian of Indian descent. And due to our work, we are all based here in Thailand. I have a 5 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. So, much of our children’s life is spent in Thailand but with frequent visits to my Hubby’s homecounty which is Malaysia and of course the Philippines.
This blog of mine will have to change focus as it will now have to tackle my daily challenges and experience as a Mom of 3rd Culture Kids.
